Saint Iggy

Going, K.L. 2006. Saint Iggy.

Iggy Corso is a troubled teen. The truth is, he didn’t become troubled. He was born that way. With a mother addicted to drugs, he was born addicted too. Now as a sixteen-year-old, everyone expects him to be a trouble-maker, a drug addict, just like his no-good family. Living in the projects with his father who is drunk or stoned most of the time, he rarely sees his mother anymore. Although when he does, he knows she’s still as addicted to drugs and the druggie lifestyle. So it shouldn’t come as a big surprise that Iggy has a problem with authority figures. When he follows a ‘hot chick’ into a class that is not his own--he dropped it the first week of school--the teacher challenges him and accuses him of trying to assault her. What he really guilty of? Following a girl into a classroom, sitting down, trying to blend in, and answering sarcastically when the teacher asked why he was there. He’s not violent. He’s not prone to making threats. But because of who he is--his poverty stricken, drug-infested household--everyone always assumes the worst. SAINT IGGY follows his adventures and misadventures as this sixteen year old boy tries to get his life back on track. It’s not easy. It’s not pretty. It’s a harsh portrayal of drugs, crime, and violence.
